Need CDR for Australian immigration?

CDR for Australian immigration is important phase to those who want to migrate to Australia for work.  A CDR or Competency Demonstration Report is a combination of 3 career episodes, CPD and Summary Statement used for demonstrating the competency of engineering skills. All Engineers are required to submit the CDR report to the Engineers Australia for skill assessment. If there degree is not accredited by Engineers Australia or if they do not want to be assessed as per degree title and course contents.

Following are the cases where the engineers need to submit CDR for skill assessment.

  1. The Engineering Degree is neither accredited nor is from a country which is a full signatory to Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord then Competency Demonstration Report Pathway (CDR) should be adopted to apply for immigration

Career Episodes (CEs)

While writing career episodes, you should focus on the following points:

  • Each CE should be based on an Engineering task undertaken by you such as
    • An Engineering project you carried out during studies
    • A project you have worked on
    • An Engineering role played by you in your company
  • The length of the CE should be between 1200-1700 words
  • In each Career Episode the paragraphs should be numbered as below:
    • Career Episode 1 (paragraphs CE1.1, CE1.2, and CE1.3 etc.)
    • Career Episode 2 (paragraphs CE2.1, CE2.2, and CE2.3 etc.)
    • Career Episode 3 (paragraphs CE3.1, CE3.2, and CE3.3 etc.)
  • The word limit for different parts of Career Episodes is given as below:
    • Introduction not more than 100 words
    • Background (200-500 words)
    • Personal Engineering Activity (500-1000 words)
    • Summary (50-100 words)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

It can include following:

  • Formal postgraduate study detail
  • Conferences attended
  • Short courses, workshops, seminars attended

Summary Statement

The professional summary statement is the most significant part of CDR as it provides cross reference for all CEs. All the elements of the career episodes for professional summary statement must be added to it. For applying as a professional Engineer download the available
page from the website and complete it with the fields required and then attach it with your application. For more info please read How to prepare a professional summary statement.
